Abstract:
      The Noranda Continuous Copper Smelting Process was put into operation at the Horne Smelter in March 1973 Since that time, the smelting capacity has been increased by four times After 1989, the Noranda Reactor has been become the sole smelting unit at the Horne Smelter Now the Noranda Continuous Copper Smelting Process is one of the world-leading copper smelting processes and makes Horne Smelter an advanced and more competitive smelter This paper presents an overview of the history of Horne Smelter, especially the main Noranda reactor improvements The paper also describes the Noranda Continuous Copper Smelting Process and its main equipment, showing statistics on recent-year operation and production from 1991 to 1995 The organization and management as well as on-line development of the smelter are in troduced in this paper
