| Abstract: |
| The sesbaia gum products from both dry and wet processes are of yellow colour, restricting the application of sesbania gum in some industries. Based on tests, the decolouring technology has been developed for both dry and wet processes. When the sesbania gum is produced in the dry process, the sesbania endosperm flakes are bleached with SO 2 together with hydration, for getting decoloured sesbania gum. The residual sulphur content of bleached sesbania gum powder is 0.000095%, which is much lower than the State Standard (0.005% residual sulphur). When using the wet process, there are two decolouring methods: (1) Soaking sesbania seeds with SO 2; (2)dissolving the colour of sesbania endosperm flakes with alcohol solvant. It is indicated from detection that when sesbania gum produced by the wet process is used as a food additive its residual sulphur content is much lower than the State Standard. The decoloured sesbania gum has a wider application field and a stronger competition on the market. |
