| Abstract: |
| Under the guidance of the basic theory of geophysics and from the characteristics of the earth gravity field,the authors probe into the source of lateral pressure and horizontal stress in a tailings dam,and explain,through strict theoretical analysis,that the gravity,i e the terrestrial gravitation retaining the tailings mixture,is key reason for horizontal stress in the tailings dam The terrestrial gravitation retaining the tailing mixture can cause both vertical and horizontal stresses in the tailings dam In this paper,a scientific expression for the horizontal stress resulted from the gravitation of tailing mixture is given and a new method to calculate the lateral pressure and horizontal stress in the tailings dam is proposed In addition,a proximate mathematical model to show the change of the horizontal stress with dam altitude is worked out through regression analysis. |
