Abstract:
The flotation behaviour of pyrite pretreated by electrochemical ways under externally controlled voltages and in different pH values of pulp is investigated. The flotability of pretreated pyrite is increased indistinctively in acidic and xanthate atmosphere. However, it is increased obviously under voltages of from 400mV to 800mV and in alkaline and xanthate conditions. The reasons for higher recovery of pyrite are that oxidation reaction, which results in S~0 and S~0_2,takes place on its surface, and that xanthate is oxidized into dixanthogen. In the meantime, the mechanism is studied by current-voltage curve testing and X-ray photoelectron energy spectrum analysis.
