| Abstract: |
| The cathode reaction mechanism of manganese in the Ocean Polymetallic Nodules during the Slurry Electrolysis is investigated by the cathode polarization curve determined under various conditions and the corresponding experiments. The main reaction on the cathode is the reduction of FeCl~((3-n))_n. Because of the existence of the Ocean Nodules particles, the FeCl ~((2-n))_n produced on the cathode will be oxidized by the Ocean Nodules, and FeCl ~((3-n))_n will be reduced on the cathode again and so on.There are three ways for the Ocean polymetallic nodules to be leached, which are cathode reduction, chemical reduction and chemical dissolution.Among them, the ratio of direct reduction of the nodule particles on the cathode is less than 5%.The majority of manganese in the Ocean Polymetallic Nodules is leached by FeCl~((2-n))_n during Slurry Electrolysis. |
