Abstract:
With the depletion of sulfide nickel ores, developing nickel laterite ores in a high efficiency and low cost way is significant to meet the increasing requirement of nickel. This paper introduces the mineralogy of nickel laterites and the mechanism of high pressure acid leaching (HPAL), and describes the influencing elements of this process in terms of enhancing leaching rate of nickel and decreasing acid consumption. Furthermore, from the view of industrial application, the paper introduces the technical development of this process, especially focuses on high pressure acid leaching – atmospheric leaching (HPAL-AL) process and unconventional medium leaching process.
