Abstract:
Traditional nitroso-R-salt spectrophotometry is improved to determine cobalt content in zinc sulfate solution. The influence of various experimental conditions, including absorption wavelength, dosages of chromogenic agent, kinds and amounts of acids for digestion, heating time, complex stability and coexisting ions, which affect the accuracy and precision are investigated in detail. Experimental results show that, Co2 reacts with nitroso-R-salt to produce red complexes in acetic acid-sodium acetate buffer medium at pH=5.5~7.0 and the best absorption wavelength is 530nm. The calibration graph is linear in the concentration range of 0.1~5.0 mg/L cobalt with a regression coefficient of 0.9998. This method has been applied to the determination of cobalt in zinc sulfate solution, the values of RSD( n=5) is 5.44% or less, and the standard recovery rate is 99%~102%.
