Abstract:
The leach of Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, Al, Mg, Si, Cr from a nickeliferous limonitic laterite ore was studied by high pressure sulfuric acid leaching process for the extraction of nickel and cobalt. As high as 96.8% Ni, 96.6% Co, 98.7%Mn and as less as 2.6% Fe, 16.9% Al, 61.8%Mg, 1.9% Si, 0.7%Cr were extracted respectively under the optimum conditions with the leaching temperature at 250℃and time of 40 minutes while sulfuric acid dosage as 240 kg/t dry ore. Chromium existed in the only form of Cr3 and there was no Cr6 in the leach liquor, And the discharge slurries was found to be effective for liquid-solid separation. The SEM images of residue with 30, 40, 60minutes shows the Fe3 in the phase of gothite almost fully leach and re-precipitation through hydrolyzation at 30 minutes and extending the leach time only made the distribution of particle size in phase of hematite become more symmetrical. Further analysis indicates that the main composition for leach residue were Fe2O3, (H3O)Al3(OH)6(SO4)2 , KAl3(SO4)2(OH)6 and SiO2.
