Abstract:
Refined vein quartz ore can replace berg crystal to produce high purity quartz sand in large scale, and it is necessary to carry out study on ore properties for the planning of processing technology. Based on the observation under polarizing microscope, the process mineralogy of the quartz ore from Qinghai province was studied with some modern testing methods like XRD, ICP, SEM-EDS, including chemical composition, mineral assemblage and dissemination characteristics, occurrences of impurities, and optional test of the ore was conducted. The result suggested: the quartz formed in two periods has great difference in particle size, containing a large amount of inclusions; Gangue minerals and later quartz formed in one period, mainly composed of muscovite, fluorite and iron mineral; The overall character of dissemination indicated that the vein quartz ore was difficult to be dissociated and purified, and it’s occurrence state of impurity elements is complicated; After preliminary purification, the purity of SiO2 was 99.91% in fine-grained quartz sand, reached the standard of high purity quartz sand.
