Abstract:
The effect of Nb coating on the structure and electrochemical performance of lithium rich manganese layered oxide materials was studied. It is found that Nb could react with residual lithium on the surface of materials to form LiNbO3, which reduced the residual alkali content. The electrochemical performance of the sample with 0.2% Nb coating is the best: the specific discharge capacity is 285.6 mAh/g at 0.1C, and the capacity retention rate is 85.9% after 100 cycles at 1C, which shows better rate performance and lower voltage decay, which is better than that of the uncoated sample. The performance improvement may be attributed to the diffusion of Nb into the surface lattice of the material during the heat treatment and form strong Nb-O bond, which alleviate the loss of lattice oxygen during the cycles, thus stabilizing the structure. Moreover, the fast ion conductor LiNbO3 coated on the surface not only prevents the corrosion of the electrolyte on the material surface, reduces the occurrence of side reactions and the dissolution of transition metals. but also promotes the diffusion of lithium ion and electron conduction.
