Industrial Practice of Extraction of Tellurium From Copper Telluride Slag

Abstract:
      In this paper, a method of recovering tellurium from copper telluride slag is introduced. The efficient extraction and purification of tellurium was realized through a series of processes, including acidic oxidation leaching, impurity removal by alkaline leaching, tellurium oxidation precipitation, dissolution reduction and casting. Meanwhilethe recovery of copper resources was accomplished by neutralization. The results showed that during the acidic oxidation leaching process, Cu and Te could be efficiently separated under the optimized conditions of NaClO3 of 35 g?L-1, H2SO4 concentration of 70 g?L-1, the liquid-solid ratio of 10:1, and temperatures of 70 ℃. Tellurium oxide in the residue of acidic leaching process was leached with NaOH solution, and Na2S was added as precipitant to purify the alkali leaching solution. Then, H2O2 was adopted to oxidize and precipitate Te(IV) in the alkali leaching solution. Finally, HCl-SO2 was adopted to dissolve and reduce sodium tellurate to obtain high-purity tellurium powder. After melting and casting, tellurium ingot products meeting the standard of 1 # tellurium ingot were prepared. And the recovery rate of tellurium was 95%.The industrial practice also shows that the process can effectively realize the efficient recovery of tellurium resources from copper telluride slag, with significant economic and environmental benefits.
