| Abstract: |
| Molten salts are the high-temperature ionic melts from salt compounds and have been widely applied in electrochemical metallurgy, heat storage, and material synthesis. Due to their diverse type, complex compositions, and strong high-temperature corrosivity, different applications require tailored molten salt types and physicochemical properties. It is crucial to optimize molten salt compositions and understand their physicochemical characteristics to meet application requirement. This paper reviews recent advancements in molten salt electrochemical metallurgy. The developments of heat storage molten salt system, physicochemical properties, and potential applications in thermal energy storage are summarized. Additionally, future research directions in molten salt technology and its role in promoting green, low-carbon metallurgy are disscused. |
